HOWARD WATERFALL RETREAT
This project is set on a riverside site near a waterfall that floods on a regular cycle treating the shifting water and terrain not as obstacles but as part of the architecture itself. Flooding is understood less as a threat than as a force that blurs boundaries and gives rise to new landscapes. The design expands a series of platforms that guide users through changing experiences of water, light, wind, and vegetation. Following the slope of the land and the rise of the river, the buildings are arranged to open gradually to their surroundings, allowing forest and water to slip inside. Using timber and natural materials and maintaining the roofline of the existing structure, the project bridges the past construction with the present design. By turning changing environmental conditions into part of the spatial experience, it creates a place where architecture and nature remain inseparable.
